Definition of Learning at the International School in Genoa
Learning in an exceptional school takes place in a joyful, safe and caring environment. It is a carefully engineered journey where teachers challenge their students with rich experiences to reach deep understanding using inquiry and critical thinking. Students are encouraged to meet their full potential and develop the skills to be successful in a rapidly changing world. They are led to become self-directed, independent thinkers, capable of teamwork and problem solving in their immediate and global environment.
In November of 2015, a group of students, parents, teachers and administrators met to discuss what it means to be a learner at The International School in Genoa. Our quest was to study, reflect and define what learning is in a school with a mission statement centering on respect, responsibility and excellence. Under the guidance of Bill and Dr. Ochan Powell, co directors and researchers of the Education Across Frontiers organization, we created the above definition, merging our collective values, beliefs and experiences about learning
